RMSA has just signed a historic agreement with the Royal Agricultural & Horticultural Society of SA (RA&HS) Education Foundation. This three-year agreement provides financial support for a series of joint initiatives.
The RA&HS Education Foundation will support the awarding of a bursary during the 2014/15, 2015/16 and 2016/17 years for the professional development of young journalists who live in regional areas and report for country based newspapers or media outlets. The Young Rural & Regional Journalist Professional Development Award was initiated in the 2012/13 year and this new agreement guarantees that at least five young rural journalists will receive benefit from the initiative.

Veteran RMSA Secretary/Treasurer, Bob Snewin is well known for the massive amount of backroom work he does to keep the Association running. However less well known is his out of hours role as a drummer in the rock band, The Embers.
Formed in 1964, The Embers set the local music scene alight with solid rocking music. Now aged in their 60's, the band members have come to the attention of ABC Radio's "2013 Exhumed Competition".

RA&HS President, Richard Fewster recently launched the 2014 Young Rural & Regional Journalist Professional Development Award.
The winner will receive a two-day education program designed to expose them to a choice of two-day metropolitan media experiences related to the 2014 Royal Adelaide Show. Entries opened on 1st August 2013 and will close on 30th April 2014, spanning the 2013-2014 SA Country Show season.

The 2013 Young Rural & Regional Journalist Professional Development Award has been presented to Yorke Peninsula Country Times journalist, Rhiannon Koch.
An initiative of the Royal Agricultural & Horticultural Education Foundation and Rural Media SA, the award was initiated to foster high professional standards and provide professional development opportunities for young regionally based journalists.

South Australian based rural journalists and photographers took out a number of the top Star Prize awards at this year’s International Federation of Agricultural Journalists' Conference.
Presented in Argentina on Wednesday September 4, Star Prizes are the most significant awards in agricultural journalism and this year’s result shows that Australian rural journalists can match it with the best in the world.

A number of RMSA members featured in the winners list of the 2013 South Australian Media Awards presented during a function at the National Wine Centre in May.
In a clean sweep for radio, ABC’s Nance Haxton was awarded both the “Best Radio Current Affairs or Feature Award” and the prized “Best Radio Broadcaster Award”. As a regular entrant in the Telstra Rural Media Awards, Nance is well known to most RMSA members.
