Rural Media South Australia recently honoured its long serving Secretary/Treasurer, Bob Snewin with Honorary Life Membership of the organisation. Bob joins Jim McCarter, Bruce Mitchell and Ian Doyle as only the fourth person in RMSA’s forty year history to receive this honour.
Bob Snewin’s initial involvement with RMSA was over twenty years ago while he was State Manager of the Australian Dairy Corporation. He realised the invaluable role RMSA could play in influencing community attitudes toward the primary industry sector and in enhancing the flow of high level information back to people working in rural areas.

Advertiser journalist and Rural Editor, Nigel Austin and photographer, Tait Schmaal were awarded South Australia's Best Rural Journalist and Photographer at the recent 2010 Telstra Rural Media Awards.
Telstra National Sales Manager, Michael McGlashan (pictured left) presented trophies and cheques for $5,000 in prize money to the top performers. Nigel and Tait are also pictured with RMSA president Ian Doyle.

Former Stock Journal editor Dick James has been inducted as the 2010 Rural Media Icon.
Dick started with the Stock Journal in January 1954. At that time the publication was known as the Adelaide Stock & Station Journal. Dick was appointed editor of the Stock Journal in 1976 and was managing editor from 1985-1987. In 1998 he decided to take a short break, but was invited back by the Stock Journal proprietors to take over as livestock editor. Dick relinquished that role in late 2001 to provide an upgrade for a younger man.

Prominent former ABC rural and regional radio journalist, Alan Richardson was recently inducted by Rural Media South Australia as its fifth “Rural Media Icon”.
In the early 1970’s Alan attended Roseworthy Agricultural College, gaining the Roseworthy Diploma of Agriculture and Diploma of Agricultural Technology. He graduated as Dux of both courses and was awarded the prestigious “Gramp Hardy Smith Award” for the person showing the best all-round character and ability, taking into specific consideration his manliness, his leadership, his sportsmanship and his scholarship.

An initiative designed to foster excellence in regional journalism has been announced by the Royal Agricultural & Horticultural Society (RA&HS) & Rural Media South Australia (RMSA).
Jointly funded by the two organisations and supported by media mentor partners the Stock Journal, Channel Seven, ABC Rural and The Advertiser, the award encourages greater reporting on SA Country Shows and aims to elevate the importance of regional communities and rural issues for all South Australians.

An investigative report into Australia’s role in the global food shortage has won a South Australian journalist the 2012 Rabobank Australian Star Prize for Rural Broadcasting.
ABC Landline’s Kerry Staight’s win was announced today at a gathering of Rural Media SA. The award is run annually by the Australian Council for Agricultural Journalists (ACAJ), in association with Australia’s five dedicated rural media clubs.
