Significant peer recognition and a total of $6,000 in prize money plus trophies is on the table in this year’s prestigious 2014 Telstra & Rural Business Support Rural Media Awards.
Individual awards will be given to the best journalists in print, radio, television and online media and new regional print and photojournalism awards with significant prize money is being offered for each category. SA based ABC Country Hour reporter, Laura Poole has won the national radio category of the 2014 Rabobank Australian Star Prize for Rural Broadcasting.
Laura’s story, “Border tension over OJD” focused on how sheep producers were coping with the contentious regulations governing how the spread of sheep wasting disease, Ovine Johne’s Disease was being controlled. The radio piece was the culmination of considerable research and consultation by Laura with primary producers, sheep bodies and state regulators about the newly introduced OJD rules. ...

South Australia-based staff writer with media company Coretext, Rebecca Jennings has been recognised internationally as a ‘Young Leader’ in agricultural journalism.
